What is Digital Recordkeeping?

As a producer in South Africa, staying ahead in the highly competitive agricultural sector requires more than just a green thumb. Credible digital data on compliance is vital for retailers, importers, and buyers because it provides transparency, enables real-time monitoring, manages risks, and facilitates collaboration. SIZA is committed to fostering sustainable and ethical agricultural practices in South Africa. To support this mission, the SIZA Digital Recordkeeping Programme was launched in 2022, aiding producers, packhouses, and processing facilities in tracking their production inputs and outputs.

However, Recordkeeping and traceability of production inputs and outputs are arguably the most important factors for driving continuous improvement and the efficiency and profitability of agribusinesses. The SIZA Digital Recordkeeping Programme is a valuable programme for South African producers looking to enhance and showcase their agricultural practices. This innovative programme allows users to input data on production/packing, water usage, fuel consumption, fertilisers, chemicals, and waste management.

The programme is offered to SIZA subscribers at an annual cost of R500 (excl VAT) regardless of how many sites or commodities are included in the account. For new subscribers who are not registered for SIZA Social or Environmental modules, the programme is offered at an annual cost of R1 500 (Excl VAT). To register for the programme, please contact Lizzy Sebati (lizzy@siza.co.za) or contact the SIZA office on 021 852 8184.

How Digital Recordkeeping Assists with calculating your Carbon Footprint

As there is overlap between the data captured in the SIZA Digital Recordkeeping Programme and the information required for a carbon footprint calculation, SIZA avoids duplication by integrating with approved GHG specialist companies such as Confronting Climate Change. The Digital Recordkeeping data can optionally be annualised and sent to the selected third-party GHG Specialist company in order to be used to calculate a Carbon Footprint. The full Carbon Footprint report is integrated into the SIZA Annual PDF reports for ease of access and visibility to markets.

To maintain credibility to markets, this calculation is done independently from SIZA and may carry an additional fee from the Third-party GHG Specialist.
